YMCA-YWCA of Northeast Avalon Launches 18th Annual Enterprise Olympics Competitions
The YMCA-YWCA of Northeast Avalon has launched its 18th annual Enterprise Olympics Competitions. This program encourages entrepreneurial and creative thinking among students and teachers and inspires youth to consider careers in entrepreneurship. It is comprised of three separate, innovative projects that engage students from different age groups:
11th Annual Create a Logo competition- Grades 4 to 6
This is a fun and creative competition whereby students are asked to identify a business idea that they think would work in Newfoundland and Labrador. They provide a name, a brief description and Create a Logo for the business they have chosen. When creating the logo, they are to use three colors only; shades of the color are considered an additional color. Create a Logo competition provides students the opportunity to engage in artistic and inventive thinking, to win monetary and promotional prizes, and to have their ideas published in the following year’s edition of Create a Logo. Deadline for entries is March 2, 2012.
12th Annual Market Your Thoughts competition - Grades 7 to 9
This competition requires that students write an essay describing a business concept that they believe would succeed in Newfoundland and Labrador. They are expected to think in detail about the concept and provide information that would represent their understanding of the concept and running a business. This competition exposes young people to new career opportunities that exist in their community, region or province and encourages them to exercise their innovative abilities. Students are eligible to win monetary and promotional prizes and to have their winning essays published in next year’s edition of Market Your Thoughts. Deadline for entries is March 16, 2012.

18th Annual Enterprise Olympics Conference - Corner Brook, Newfoundland
Each year the Enterprise Olympics Conference is an unforgettable and rewarding event for high school students. Approximately 50 students from all across Newfoundland and Labrador attend to showcase their unique ideas and creativity. The conference offers students the opportunity to network with business owners, government officials, financial institution representatives, and fellow student entrepreneurs. The weekend is packed with activities and entertainment which encourage students to bring their best to the competition and have fun in the process. Since 1993 a number of schools from the province have been participating in the program, supporting the growth of entrepreneurial thinking among students. We encourage all high schools that offer Entrepreneurship 3209 to participate in this year’s event taking place from May 3-6, 2012 at the Greenwood Hotel in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
