YMCA World Peace Week 2010YMCA Peace Week 2010

The YMCA-YWCA of Northeast Avalon participated in the 26th Annual YMCA World Peace Week. Ys across Canada recognized Peace Makers in their Communities and hosted a Peace Week Breakfast.

This year the Peace Week Breakfast was held at the Holiday Inn on Friday November 26, 2010, 7:30 – 8:30am. At the event, volunteers were thanked for their generous contributions of time and talent to the Y.

At this year’s event the YMCA Peace Medallion was awarded to Holly White. Holly works on a daily basis to help youth in their day to day lives and helps them adapt into the school system. She does this by working with the school board and other agencies to help youth get to school when they cannot afford bus passes and a school bus is not provided. She reaches out to local community centres and groups for special events and occasions. She brings youth and children together by coordinating ANC (Association for New Canadians) Youth Group and other children/youth events, and encourages the youth to foster relationships with everybody, despite their differences in culture, country of origin or age.
