Please join us in welcoming Shaun MacLean as our new Regional VP, Labrador/General Manager, Central Labrador YMCA starting December 9, 2024.

Since his arrival to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in 2008 on the Bond ferry, Shaun MacLean has been fortunate to work and volunteer with incredible teams and organizations, which have allowed him to build strong relationships in Labrador. He has led and been a part of health, wellness, and recreation programs, infrastructure planning and development, government relations, and community events like the Trapline Marathon and the Labrador Winter Games. His work experiences include time with the Labrador Friendship Centre, the Government of NL, and Municipal Director of Community Services and Recreation with the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. He returned to his hometown of Sydney River, Cape Breton in 2015, only to return to the Big Land in 2018 to work with the Government of NL, eventually as the Regional Director for Child and Youth Services for the Labrador Region. For the past year, he has been the Chief Operations Officer for the NunatuKavut Community Council.

Shaun’s volunteer and professional experiences, all rooted in community development have led him here to the Central Labrador YMCA. Shaun, his wife Alison, and their best friend (pup) Abby love spending their free time with family and friends, outdoors, camping, and being active in the community.

We thank out-going VP/GM Dominic Demers for his significant contributions to the YMCA and wish him well in his new role with the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Shaun will be meeting with his staff teams, volunteers, and joining the local Town/YMCA advisory committees to understand the operation and to set priorities that will keep improving the Central Labrador YMCA and YMCA NL’s service to Labrador communities.

Shaun is looking forward to meeting as many members as possible and can be reached at shaun.maclean@nl.ymca.ca or 709-896-9622.
