Teaching for Tomorrow – Early Childhood Educators Certification Program

The YMCA is accepting applications in its Teaching for Tomorrow – Early Childhood Educators Certification Program (the “Program”) which starts in October 3, 2022. Deadline for applications is September 2, 2022.

In collaboration with College of the North Atlantic (“CNA”), participants in the Program will complete a Certificate of Applied Arts in Early Childhood Education program (one year program) (“ECE Certificate”). Upon successful completion of the academic program, participants will receive their ECE Certificate and will be eligible to receive their Level I Child Care Services Certification in preschool and school-age care (working with children ages 18 months to 12 years). They will also be supported by the YMCA to secure employment as an ECE at a local child care centre in Happy Valley – Goose Bay (“HVGB”) (where possible).

There are 10 spaces available in the Program, which is delivered at no cost to participants.

Program Content

The Program will be provided as a hybrid delivery model, developed in collaboration with CNA and specifically designed for the YMCA’s participants.

The academic portion of the Program will consist of in-person classes at the CNA campus in HVGB with some online learning and field placements. Upon commencing the Program, participants may also be hired as trainees to work at a local child care centre while completing their studies.

Please note that delivery methods, schedules, and start dates are subject to change in the discretion of the YMCA.

Program Eligibility

Applicants must meet the entrance, documentation, and physical requirements for the ECE Certificate academic program as determined by CNA. Applicants will also be required to participate in an interview with the YMCA and must be legally permitted to study and work in Canada.
