December 2024: My Y App UpdateThe family membership barcode function is now available on the My Y App. When a member opens the app, they will now see and have access to all family members on their YMCA online profile.What does this mean?- With this feature, members can not only scan themselves in, but now all other family members when entering their YMCA branch. This eliminates the need of all family members:
- having to log in to the App separately to access their membership barcode.
- needing a physical scan card.
- With this feature, one member on the family profile can register other family YMCA members for any activity. Examples include registering your child for Child Minding, or registering you and your partner/spouse for a game of Pickleball.
Dates to remember for YMCA members with group/private swim lessons (excluding rental groups who have purchased swim lessons)
Ches Penney Family YMCA
2024
- Week of September 16 – group/private swim lessons start
- December 1 – last day of GROUP swim lessons until January
- December 15 – last day of PRIVATE swim lessons until January
2025
- Week of January 7 – group/private swim lessons resume
- April 17 to 28 – no group/private swim lessons
- Week of April 29 – group/private swim lessons resume
- June 22 – group/private swim lessons end
- Week of July 8 – summer group/private swim lessons start
- August 31 – summer group/private swim lessons end
Aquatic Guidelines Update
Lane Swimming:
- Choose a lane based on your swimming speed. Lanes are always shared.
- Indicate your intent to join a lane. Enter from a shallow or deep end wall.
- CIRCLE SWIM – Stay to the right of the black line in a lane. Swim in a counter clockwise oval pattern.
- Pass on the left-hand side.
- If you have any concerns about the traffic flow of a lane swim, please speak to a lifeguard on duty.
Supervision Guidelines:
- All pool users ages 0-11 years must be supervised by an adult (age 16+) in the water (within arm’s reach).
- Maximum of four children per adult. (Note: this can change at the discretion of the lifeguard).
- Exception: swim lessons.

Child Protection Information
For Child Protection, everyone entering through controlled access points at our YMCA must scan/show their membership card, short-term pass bar code or Government-issued photo ID (for ages 16+) with our YMCA staff.
Sign-in/out policy: At the beginning of the class/program, participants 11 years old and under must check in with the YMCA staff/volunteer instructor with an adult (16 yrs+). At the end of the class/program, participants 11 years old and under must check out by an adult (16 yrs+).
Caregivers who are not required to participate in their child’s class or program can observe from designated areas. Videography and photography are not permitted to ensure our participants’ privacy.
Jan. 2024:
The whirpool at the Ches Penney Family YMCA will close on the last Wednesday of every month for deep cleaning. It reopens the following day at 10:00am.
